Perry Solkowski

Mulit-Award-Winning Sports Broadcaster, MC and Moderator

Perry Solkowski

Perry Solkowski is a multi-award-winning sports broadcaster, spending the past 18 years at the anchor desk at CTV Vancouver. Perry spent years traveling as host of the Vancouver Canucks telecast, and still works sidelines for TSN for the Vancouver Whitecaps and Major league soccer broadcast. However, it's his focus on amateur sports that has set him apart in his industry.

Fifteen years ago he started “Perry's Prospect”, his unique look at kids involved in sports. The heartwarming stories focused on kids giving it their all, making friends and learning invaluable life skills alongside their sports skills. Perry has watched some of his prospects turn into Olympians, whom he covered as part of his network duties in Vancouver 2010 and London 2012.

Perry has hosted over 300 underprivileged kids at two separate super-camps, using his connections in the pro community to give kids a day to remember at BC Place and the Richmond Olympic Oval. He won international journalism awards for, among others, stories on a blind little league player and a team of refugee soccer players. A Kidsport Ambassador for the past 17 years, his work in the community, for which he was awarded the Paul Carson Award for Philanthrapy in 2015, is matched only by his sense of humour which has been the biggest element of his 25-year career.

Perry has brought his much-admired hosting skills to many events over the years, and will work with you to ensure a stream-lined event.

Perry’s extensive background as a media personality is apparent in how he approaches his task as host with such ease and grace. A consummate professional; he guides the audience through the evening with appropriate humor and knowledge of the game of golf. Perry is able to keep everyone’s attention and ensures the evening runs smoothly; no small feat given the size of the audience and the fact some were out on the course in the early morning!

During his 17 year tenure as sports anchor at CTV Vancouver, Perry was an unabashed supporter of amateur sport and in particular, of KidSport. His willingness to host events, provide editorial content for the cause and to get his “hands dirty and do some heaving lifting” with events benefiting our cause, are contributions that can never be duplicated or replaced. As an event emcee, Perry has a unique ability to “read a room” and to make each attendee feel like he’s speaking directly to them. He has a warm and friendly style that, while often off the cuff, was nevertheless always on message and impactful. He has hosted the KidSport annual golf tournament for the past 10 years and aside from keeping the attention of everyone in the room he also has a talent for being able to serve as a talented auctioneer. His skill for coercing bids and upping the expectations on auction revenue is a special gift that not only makes a difference to an event’s bottom line but keeps everyone engaged and laughing. Perry is a gifted story teller and demonstrates a sincerity and likeability during his presentations that keep an audience entertained. I would highly recommend Perry as host, emcee, auctioneer or ambassador for any event or cause.

For the past ten years Perry has graciously accepted the role of Master of Ceremonies, on behalf of CTV, at BC Alpine’s annual Peak to Peak Dinner & Auction. He has always shown a commitment to supporting and promoting Canadian athletes, and has consistently made impressive contributions to the success of our fundraising event. With Perry’s help we have raised over $1,000,000 in support of amateur ski racing in British Columbia. Perry is the consummate professional. Here are just some of the reasons we invite him back year after year: Total ease and comfort as a public speaker – Whether he is commentating on a sporting event, conducting an interview with an athlete or acting as MC at a fundraiser, Perry is graceful, engaging and polished in his delivery. He has a great sense of humour and is charismatic both on camera and in front of a group. Perry can read a script or read a room, adjusting for age, gender, interests, etc. and always connecting with his audience. Knowledge of Canadian sports – Perry has significant knowledge and understanding of Canadian sports, both amateur and professional, and always puts time and effort into researching the historical achievements and background of the teams and athletes he works with. Entertaining and witty – Perry has a natural and respectful wit and sense of humour in front of a camera or audience, at a microphone or in personal conversations. His public presence and commentating style are sincere, energetic and fun.

Perry has been working with and supporting Boys and Girls Clubs of South Coast BC for nearly 8 years, over which time we have not just gotten to know him well, but come to admire and respect his professionalism, warmth, high standards and commitment to community. Those are more than just statements, they are observations based on his work with us over time. I believe what makes Perry stand out in his role and work with us is how he has consistently given us his time, attention and dedication to the best possible outcome regardless of whether he has been creating a news story about BGC for the evening news, starring in a vignette to show at our gala, or acting as MC at our golf tournaments and gala. It is worth noting that not only is he an exceptionally engaging and entertaining MC, he is also prepared to go above and beyond when the circumstances demand it. Case in point: Perry carried our gala crowd with impromptu stand up comedy when our entertainment was 20 minutes late. At that point in the evening, had Perry not stepped up, the success of our gala would have been at significant risk. The success of our events have a direct correlation to Perry’s involvement. There’s no better mix of smart, strategic and dedicated local personality, and we highly recommend him.
